Join us for a walk Into the woodlot in Broadacres Park! This year, our annual Jane's Walk will be led by West Mall community leader and environmental activist, Johann Fish.
"My name is Johann Fisch. I am deaf. I planted my first tree on March 20, 1957 in my Mother’s garden in Munich (Germany). After moving to Canada I saw that across from my home was Broadacres Park: a park with no trees.
On Earth Day 1981, I planted 5 trees in Broadacres. My dream was to plant an urban forest to contribute to the environment and give back to my community. Since then, I plant a new tree every Earth Day. Over the years, many community groups have contributed to planting and caring for the woodlot, which is now a vibrant forest of over 800 trees taking up 2.5 acres in shape of a heart. I look forward to welcoming you on a walk through the woodlot, and sharing its stories."
We will begin and end the walk in Broadacres Park next to Broadacres Junior School (35 Crendon Dr, Etobicoke, ON M9C 3G6)
